Dopey Helena

October 10, 2018 by Helena Trent 7 Comments

Dopey Helena didn’t get high, just got a good night’s sleep from 1 single drop of tincture! Some powerful stuff. As usual, I missed all the fun of being in an altered state! Hahaha! People drink alcohol and get high, I drink alcohol and get sleepy. Why should this be different? I really felt like I had a bottle of wine. I bet I was asleep in 5 minutes last night! The difference is I didn’t wake up with a hangover. The effect lasted about 4 hours or so, when I woke up, I was clear headed.

This morning I got smart. Instead of taking my Tagrisso in the afternoon after my radiation, I took it at 6am this morning! Normally I can’t just change the time I take the medicine, but since I threw it up yesterday, it became a reset day. So, my pill was well digested long before radiation. I did throw up around dinner time, but that’s ok. I am not upset this time. I get use to throwing up, shrug my shoulders and move on. Isn’t that awful? lol!

I have to report some good news. I have been on Targrisso for less than 10 days, my cough has gotten so much better. I stopped coughing up blood after being on it for 3 days. My lungs are beginning to clear up. There was a bulging lymph node sticking out on the side of my neck now pretty much all gone! It’s amazing what this drug is doing for me. Celebrating little victories and milestones! 🙂

Medical Cannabis

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and words of encouragement from my last post!

Yesterday radiation treatments started back up, my body really did not like it one bit. With two days off over the weekend, my body thought we were done with that stuff. This time, the nausea came back with a fight!! Even with anti-nausea prescription medication, seabands, ginger tea, and rice soup, my body has managed to throw up twice yesterday and once today. The big problem today was I threw up my Tagrisso super-duper drug. I am not allowed to have a makeup dose if I throw up because there is no way to tell how much was digested even though it was only in my system for less than 30 min. It would have to count as a missing dose. 🙁

Life Goes On

October 7, 2018 by Helena Trent 8 Comments

When I first got my CT Scan results which was the first time I was alerted to the fact that I might have cancer, I couldn’t bring myself to tell my 14-year-old son. He has just started high school about a month ago. Things are going so well for him. On his own initiative, he took a summer geometry course at a local community college this past summer so he could take AP math in his senior year. He did well, already got his first A before school started. He enrolled himself in JROTC for their training. He is in the marching band, going to every football game on Friday nights. On top of all the school activities, he works part-time at Kumon one night a week and goes to his kung fu classes 3-4 times a week. He has a full life! I couldn’t bear the thought of crushing his young adult life with bad news! How do you tell your son you have cancer out of the blue?!
